Got a question about the VAIO Z1 series notebooks? You can get an answer to your question while helping others by having the Q&A posted here. Please note: I'm no expert, nor am I an employee of Sony. However, I do have a long history of computer use and am fairly up-to-par with this VAIO. So what are you waiting for? Test my Z1 knowledge: maki@vaioz.com
Questions already asked... •My touchpad has gone unpredictably unresponsive. Do you have any experience with this, or do you know about replacing the touchpad if it is damaged and where to get the parts? I have heard this before however have not had the problem myself. If anyone knows more about this, please e-mail me. The only thing I can suggest is checking the cables and the touchpad chip. This will require a bit of work as you will need to fully open the unit. If you would like to try a replacement, the part number is 179662211 (replaced by part 179662212) and is $55 from Sony Direct Accessories. This is the known part for the US W** series, but I would expect it is the same among the line. You can call the Sony Parts customer service at 1-800-488-SONY to verify. Thanks! •I was wondering if you knew what screws specifially must be removed to remove the keyboard thus gaining access to the so-dimm. Only screws labeled "D" on the opening tutorial must be removed to remove the keyboard, thereby giving access to the memory slot. •Also, my Z1-WAMP has 512 mb of RAM, does that already occupy the single so-dimm or is there a second empty one that I may place another 512MB into? I'm trying to decide if I can make the 1GB upgrade by adding another 512 or must I replace the current 512 and insert a 1024 MB module. As pictured in the opening turorial, the unit has a factory installed 512MB of RAM and there is an open slot. You should be able to add another 512MB stick for the total of 1GB. Thanks for the questions! •How do I get into the unit? •There's no hooks or latches, so how does the Z1 know
when the lid is closed?! It turns out there is a small magnet behind the bezel to the right of your screen. When the magnet nears a sensor located under the palm rest bezel on the right side of the keyboard, the computer knows the lid is closed! |
